Apple releases macOS 15 Sequoia

Sept. 26, 2024

Apple released macOS 15 Sequoia on September 16, 2024. Additionally, a security update for macOS 14.7 was also rolled out on September 25. Users are encouraged to install the 14.7 update. While they may also notice the availability of Sequoia, installing it is not recommended due to ongoing issues with CrowdStrike.

OIT follows Apple's support lifecycle on macOS operating system releases. Apple provides support, including updates and patches, for the most recent macOS version along with the previous two versions. macOS versions older than the current 3 releases are considered out-of-support and must be upgraded to a supported release to maintain a secure security posture.

The University's Information Security Office (ISO) position on using devices running out-of-support operating systems asserts that such devices cannot be used for University work because they put the University’s information security at significant risk.
