Try the new Microsoft Teams

Jan. 31, 2024

Beginning February 1, 2024, Princeton Teams users can preview the new Microsoft Teams app, which has been reimagined from the ground up for a faster, simpler, and more flexible experience. In the new Teams, you can switch between apps, respond to chat messages, and join meetings and calls more quickly while using less battery and memory. Beginning in late March 2024, the new Teams will be the only available version.

Preview and explore the new changes and features in this PDF infographic or this How to use the New Teams video.

Start using the new Teams

To get started using the new Teams, flip the toggle next to Try the new Teams in the upper-left corner of the classic Teams app.

Don’t see the toggle? Try signing out and back in or contact the Service Desk.

Select Get it now from the pop-out dialogue. The new Teams will start installing.

Your Teams app will reboot to open the new Teams. Any subsequent actions you take will happen in the new Teams by default, like joining a Teams meeting from Outlook.

Switch back to classic Teams

At this time, users have the ability to switch back to Classic Teams.  To do this, select the Settings and More ellipse at the top of the window (to the left of your user profile picture) and toggle off New Teams.

When you switch between the new and classic Teams, the version you’re currently using will close and the one you’re switching to will automatically open and become your default version. If you are actively participating in a meeting or call, you will be disconnected.

Beginning in late March 2024, New Teams will be the only version available and users who are not utilizing the new experience at that time will be automatically upgraded.

Known issues

The new version of Teams has several known issues. Users experiencing these issues may revert to Teams classic until the issues are resolved or until Teams is automatically deployed at the end of March 2024.
